On Saturday, February 23rd, Saint Louis Cellars was the host for the St. Louis Street Rod Association’s “Rod Run”. Over 200 people turned out and spent the afternoon looking at some classic cars, eating the free barbecue from Hanlen’s Meats, and tasting the newest brand of wines available in our store: AutoMoto wines. It was a rousing success, and we look forward to having an even larger event this summer.

March Women & Wine Column – Click to Read!
Are women the greater sex? It is tough—and dangerous—to say, but I can tell you one thing for sure: women have better taste. Taste buds, that is. It is genetically proven that women have more taste buds than our male counterparts.
This comes in handy for what is becoming a fast growing market for the female consumer: wine. Industry statistics predict that by 2010, the United States will be the #1 wine consuming country in the world. Furthermore, in late 2007, a Napa Valley wine conference stated that women now make up over 80% of the wine sold in the United States.
Elizabeth Thach, Ph.D., a professor of wine business and management and Sonoma State University, has done extensive research showing that women not only are making the most decisions when it comes to purchasing wine, but they also tend to have more acute palates than males.
For decades, wine has been predominately marketed towards men, but not anymore. Women are making their voices heard, and what are they demanding? Fewer calories, less alcoholic buzz, fun and exciting packaging, and something they can have with a meal. The trend is showing that women are asking more and more for a crisp, lean, less-oakey Chardonnay.
A wonderful Chardonnay that I love to serve at our home is the Novellum Chardonnay, an un-oaked white wine with rich and full aromas, consisting of peaches, honeysuckle and pears—definitely a big hit. Novellum Chardonnay is fantastic with any simple dish, particularly chicken or seafood, and it retails at Saint Louis Cellars for $12.99/bottle.

On Friday, February 8th, Saint Louis Cellars appeared at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis’ annual “Beer & Wine Tasting.” Proceeds from the event went to help keep the Opera Theatre going strong, and the response was huge, with over 250 people attending. Saint Louis Cellars was proud to donate our wine and services for this deserving organization. We featured 4 wines:
Saint Louis Cellars Private Label Rich, Chardonnay, California ($19.99) – Rich, tropical fruit flavors of pineapple, melon, kiwi and green apple with creamy vanilla notes.
Innocent Bystander, Pinot Noir, Victoria, Australia ($19.99) – Hints of dark chocolate, black cherries, strawberries and ripe plums. Perfect with stuffed mushrooms with goat cheese, butternut squash, risotto, wood-fired pizza with prosciutto or stir-fried Chinese noodles with roast pork.
Spellbound, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California ($15.99) – Lush, dark fruit textures layered with spicy components. Great paired with a steak, grilled portabellas, or smoky barbecue.
Hall, Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley, California ($19.99) – Ruby red grapefruit leaps from the glass and continues through the length palate, framed by a lively acidity that delivers a clean, crisp rise in the mid-palate. Fantastic with any meal.
