On Tuesday, March 17th comedian and winemaker Dan Aykroyd had lunch at Portabella’s in Clayton with Saint Louis Cellars owner Matt Williams and Saint Louis Cellars store manager Greg Schattgen. Lingering over risotto and Aykroyd’s new wines, Williams was taken by how approachable and knowledgeable Mr. Aykroyd was about the wines and the winemaking process.
“We decided to feature the Dan Aykroyd wines in our Wine of the Month Club this month because we loved the wine and wanted to be one of the first retailers to bring the wines to St . Louis,” says owner Williams. “It was such a surprise to us when we heard we’d get the chance to meet him and have lunch with him.”
The Dan Aykroyd Chardonnay is out of Sonoma County, California and displays wonderful citrus, melon and vanilla notes. It is well balanced, creamy and soft on the palate with a lingering fruitiness. It is a perfect complement to salmon, seafood, cream pasta dishes and chicken, and is available at Saint Louis Cellars.
The Cabernet Sauvignon, also out of Sonoma County, shows soft and fruit-forward flavors, with plenty of blueberry, black current, and sweet tobacco on the nose. On the palate the wine is medium bodied and supple, with silky tannins and a lingering finish. Give it a try with a fine steak, veal, tomato sauces and stews. It is also available at Saint Louis Cellars.
