Prince of Germany Visits Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine

July 27, 2009 · Comments Off

Matt-&-Jennifer-Williams,-Prince-Felix

On Monday, July 27th, Prince Felix zu Salm-Salm of Germany visited Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine for lunch with Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine owners Matt and Jennifer Williams as well as employees from Missouri Beverage Co., which distributes the Prince’s wines locally, to promote a few of his new wines. The Prince enjoyed our Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwich, and raved about the food as well as the eclectic display and layout of the store.

“It was an honor having Prince Felix in for lunch today,” says business owner Jennifer Williams.  “It’s not everyday you have the opportunity to have lunch with a Prince. We are so thankful to Missouri Beverage Co. for choosing Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine to be the location for this luncheon.”

The Two Princes Riesling, also known as “P2,” displays a perfect balance between sweetness, acidity and minerality. The flavors are reminiscent of delicate flowers of apricot and nectarine, with a lovely, crisp finish. The Two Princes Riesling is available for $13.99 at Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine.  The name of the wine refers to Prince Felix and his father, Prince Michael.  The Salm-Salm family has been involved in winegrowing since the 13th century, and Prince Felix just recently took over the responsibility for the Estate, which is the oldest family-owned wine estate in Germany.

Brandon Tonnies - Chef

Brandon-&-Jack-Daniels

Formerly of the highly-acclaimed restaurant Oceano, Brandon Tonnies is one of St. Louis’ up-and-coming new chefs.  ”I’m very excited to be taking a leadership role here at Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine, and I’m ready to advance my culinary skills.”  He has recently added a few of his own selections to the menu, including the new Grilled Pesto Chicken Sandwich as well as the Blue Cheese Stuffed Shrimp in the To-Go case.  Stop by today to see what else he’s whipping up!

Justin Roth – Cook/”The Student”

Justin-for-blog

Justin Roth moved to St. Louis last year from Cape Girardeau, MO last year to study at L’Ecole Culinaire, where he will be graduating from in March, but he has been in the food industry for over 7 years.  He comes to Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine with the desire to learn.  ”This is a great place to learn and develop my passion for food from some of the greatest, most experienced Chefs around,” says Justin. “Besides the talent at Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine, I’m very big about presentation and appearance of the final product, and that is something that is highly stressed here.  I’m excited to be here and be part of the whole show!”  Quick note about Justin: he was one of the few select cooks chosen to work the Commissioner’s Gala for over 4,700 people at the MLB All-Star Game this past Monday, where he met Nelly and Chuck Berry.

Nick – Staff/Resident Brainiac

Nick

Nick comes to Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine with a long history in the food and grocery industries.  “I like working for Food & Wine because it is such a fun atmosphere.  It is a unique, café-style dining experience, and the staff is awesome.  I also love the challenge of doing something new everyday.”   Interesting fact: those super-cool glasses aren’t just for looks: he’s working on his Chemistry degree!
