Happy Beaujolais Nouveau Day!!
November 19, 2009 · Comments Off

The third Thursday of November is Beaujolais Nouveau Day! French law states that the Beaujolais Nouveau cannot be released any earlier than the third Thursday of November. The celebrations began as a local phenomenon in the bars and cafés of Beaujolais and Lyon, where pitchers were filled from the growers’ barrels, but nowadays it’s celebrated around the world.

Chocovine Drink Recipes

Chocovine looks like Irish cream liqueurs. Minty milk chocolate nose. A rich entry leads a lush, velvety, full-bodied palate. Creamy, sweet, flavorful finish. A chocolate and red wine blend that winds up like a thicker version of Baileys.

Turkey Day: Did You Know…
November 17, 2009 · Comments Off

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! Did you know that more wine is consumed in the USA on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year? Perhaps it’s all the fun…or stress…of gathering together with our friends and family that have us reaching for a few glasses of wine.
In a survey conducted by the National Turkey Federation, nearly 88 percent of Americans said they eat turkey at Thanksgiving. When you’re planning your Holiday menu Saint Louis Cellars recommend picking up the following wines as the perfect pairing to your Holiday Meal.
Erath Pinot Noir: This Pinot Noir is a great pairing for Thanksgiving because it’s light to medium body with refreshing acidity. The acidity of the Pinot Noir along with the delicious fruit flavors of raspberry, cherry and subtle spice notes pair perfectly with Thanksgiving dinner.
Chateau St. Michelle Riesling: This Riesling is the perfect white to pair with Thanksgiving because of the refreshing citrus and orchard fruit flavors such as lime, orange blossom, peach and nectarine associated with the grape. The key to a great Riesling is acidity. The acidity of the wine helps cut through the protein and starch associated with a Thanksgiving meal. Additionally, the fresh fruit flavors of the Riesling are a perfect compliment to the semi-sweet flavors of gravy, cranberry, sweet potatoes and other trimming.

This is the wine club that I belong to, and therefore the one I know the most about. Near the intersection of Big Bend and Manchester Road in Richmond Heights, Saint Louis Cellars Food & Wine is a great neighborhood wine specialty store that recently expanded to include gourmet carry-out food and catering services. For $35/month, wine club members receive two bottles of wine and can attend a monthly wine tasting event at the store. The wine tastings are pretty casual and usually feature 6-8 varieties of wine and small appetizers. Members are allowed to bring friends to the event for free and also receive special discounts on all wine purchases from the store. These wine club tastings are more about socializing and hanging out with other wine drinkers than actually discussing the wines. If you’re looking to really learn about what you’re drinking, the next few clubs might be more your style.
